The United States is a major player in the international trade market, with over $2.5 trillion worth of imported and exported goods each year. Most of the products which are exported go to nearby countries such as Canada and Mexico while many of the items that are imported come from Europe and other Eastern countries.
Imported Goods
Many items for sale in America today are actually imported daily from other countries around the world. First, automobiles and vehicle parts are some of the most commonly imported items. This includes vehicles from Japan, Germany and Korea. In addition, many manufacturers purchase automobile parts from other countries and use them to assemble vehicles in United States plants. Next, although the United States exports crude oil on a daily basis, it also imports a large amount of petroleum to meet the needs of the country. Other commonly imported items include technology products such as cameras, video recorders and game systems. Finally, a variety of consumer goods are imported for American purchase from other countries, including toys, furniture and even pharmaceuticals.
Exported Goods
The United States also exports many items in the global market. One of the largest types of exported products are in the area of agriculture. This includes beef, pork, dairy products, wheat, grains and produce. Next, there are a variety of American plants that manufacture aerospace and aeronautical supplies for sales around the world, and the United States is the top country for airplane assembly. Steel is also produced in the United States and exported to many countries.Ohio, Pennsylvania and Indiana are three of the states with the highest level of steel manufacturing. Finally, the United States also exports a large number of automobiles and supplies through American companies such as Chevrolet, Ford, Jeep and Dodge. Many of these exported items are used in military operations across the globe.
